Callidus Guild Collection
Callidus Guild Collection brings a deeper meaning to luxury. Driven by profound respect for craft and commitment to quality handmade goods, Tai Ping has engaged Brooklyn-based atelier Callidus Guild for this hand-knotted collaboration.
Best known for original wallcoverings, Callidus Guild is the vision of Yolande Milan Batteau, a trained and exhibited fine artist who brings decades of aesthetic and decorative skills to the studio. These patterns translate the atelier’s expressive wall works into innovative textiles, employing silk, wool, mohair, and linen to render the experience tactile. The result is six dynamic compositional designs and four small-scale patterns in multiple colourways — a total of eighteen new carpets.
In her work across mediums, Batteau draws inspiration from ancient techniques from around the world, finding new expressions of traditional artforms through iterative experimentation. The compositions in Callidus Guild Collection nod to woodblock printing, Italian lime plaster, and Japanese urushi, thoughtfully reinterpreting spirit, feeling, and texture in fibre. Introducing innovative techniques such as a three-way tie-dye process, the carpets achieve a striking interplay of tonal depth.
Produced in Nepal by highly skilled artisans, Tai Ping’s Callidus Guild Collection continues the ethos of its design by celebrating the technique of hand-knotting in Tibetan knot quality.
